Why Should Organic Food Have Additives?

By Rob Sutter

The one aspect about organic food that I am sure many people could call is that it is, in essence, pure. There are no added ingredients to be had and since there is no sense of tampering to be had, you receive only the most pure taste imaginable. However, it seems like there is an epidemic going on with food companies utilizing additives to boost the health properties of food. I'm sure that people think that this is a good thing but at what cost?

I enjoy the fact that organic fooddoesn't have to have anything added to it to be healthy. The natural nutrients that produce, for instance, possesses will be taken into the body and nothing else will be there to contaminate it. These food products are the basis for companies such as Colle Farmers Market, which allows farmers to sell their crops through way of the Internet. If this is so beneficial, however, why is that food companies have taken to tainting such pure products with synthetic chemicals?

Orange juice that is calcium-enriched is one of those products that I don't take to normally but can see the attractiveness that others have taken to. While this is understandable, I can't say that these supplements are particularly healthy. In fact, if I had to care for a family, I don't know if I would be confident leaving my family in the care of your typical store-bought products. If the choice was more readily available, I'd go organic without a second thought.

To say that a food product is organic after chemicals have been injected inside of it should be deemed illegal. I don't think that anyone would give such an establishment any business if they knew the details as to what is inside of their foods. Sadly, people will continue to take to them. This is mostly because of pricing and while your typical store-bought food may not be as healthy for you, it costs less to purchase, which is the sad truth until some price changes come to light.

If food companies stopped using these manmade chemicals to "enrich" their food, then I feel like food regulation would be all the sounder. Sadly, I don't see that happening because organic stores are grossly outnumbered by your normal supermarkets in the world. No matter how close you may be to an organic market, small wooden cart and all, it may not be as convenient for others. Until I see an uprising in these markets that promote healthy food without any unneeded additives, I'll try to steer as clear from inorganics as possible.
